Player Spotlight: Nigel Solomon

Every club has that one person who is the heartbeat of the place — and for us, that’s Nigel Solomon. A true Goodwood man, born and bred.

As our second longest-standing member, having joined Goodwood Bowling Club in October 1984, Nigel has seen it all — the highs, the lows, the rebuilds, the glory days, and everything in between. Through every chapter, one thing has stayed constant: his commitment, loyalty, and unmistakable presence around the club.

Longevity like that isn’t accidental. It’s earned through passion and a genuine love for the game and the people around it.

Nigel’s trophy cabinet is stacked with medals collected over years of hard work, consistency, and competitive fire. His contribution to younger players has been significant, mentoring many along the way. Each accolade tells a story of matches won, battles fought, and standards set. He hasn’t just played the game — he’s left his mark on it.

Off the green, he’s legendary in a whole different way. Alongside his wife Anne, Nigel has been the man behind the apron for countless club celebrations. Whether it’s a perfectly cooked pizza or a full spread, his food has become part of club folklore. He’s also known as the club’s very own Ninja Turtle Master!

Nigel Solomon isn’t just a player, a medal winner, or a master of dough and toppings — he’s a cornerstone of our club.

Thank you, Nigel — on the green, in the kitchen, and at the heart of our club.

Please add some personal details so members can get to know you better

I was born and raised in Goodwood. I met my wife, Anne Solomon, when I was 13 years old, and 47 years later we are blessed with two daughters and two grandchildren.

Family is very important to us, and every second Thursday we gather at our home with my sister and any other guests we invite for supper. On these evenings, my wife and I prepare a three-course meal together for the family.

In my spare time, my wife makes me work in the garden. My favourite food is ribs — and anything my wife hasn’t burnt!
