History
The origin of Goodwood Bowling Club dates back to Ferbruary 1959, when a meeting of an action committee consisting of Messrs G. Consani, who was elected as Chairman. E. Burt, Secretary and later the Town Engineer. F. Hermanson, H. Jacobson, J. van der Spuy, R. Chapman and the Attorney M. Levin, was held in the M.O.T.H hall. This group deliberated on the foundation of a bowling club in Goodwood, as a large number of bowlers at the time resided in Goodwood and played their bowls at the Maitland Bowling Club.
1959
The meeting agreed to approach the Goodwood Municipality for the lease of the vacant ground facing Alice street and
west of the then called Paragon Tennis Courts, where Goodwood Sports Club Complex and tennis courts are today.
These pioneers had the foresight that this specfic site would allow for future growth and expansion of the club.
They applied to the Municipal Council for a loan of 2000 Pounds, for the erection of one bowling green, a temporary
prefabricated clubhouse and the acquisition of equipment to maintain the green.
1962
With the Club being founded later in November, the clubhouse of approximately 60 square metres was designed by an Architect, Mr A.P.S Conradie, and the builder was Mr. J van Tonder.
The one was hard of hearing and the other stuttered. It is told that to witness their communication with each other on site was an hilarious experience.
1963
The clubhouse and green was handed over to the members by the Mayor at that time, Dr N. Mallach in April 1963.
On the 30th of July 1963 the club became affiliated to the W.P Bowling Association.
