What a Classic! Mr K Goodwood Classic Delivers Big Bowls, Big Energy and Big Success

5 223 live-stream views!

What an incredible few days at the Mr K Goodwood Classic. With 24 teams, 100 bowlers and an amazing 5 223 views on the live-stream, this year’s Classic was a great showcase of bowls.

The club was a hive of activity, buzzing with excitement, great bowls, friendly competition and the fantastic atmosphere that makes the Mr K Goodwood Classic so special. From the greens to the clubhouse, there was never a dull moment. It was wonderful to see so many bowlers coming together, showcasing their skills, enjoying the spirit of the game and creating memories both on and off the green. With thousands tuning in to watch the action live, the excitement reached far beyond our club. Friday afternoon was a cool cloudy day, Saturday was bright and blustery and Sunday had perfect conditions with no wind and hot temperatures on and off the green.

A massive thank you to all the players, supporters, sponsors, visitors and, of course, our hardworking members and volunteers who helped make this tournament such a success. Your dedication, enthusiasm and support are what makes events like this worthwhile. The Goodwood Classic once again proved that bowls is about so much more than just the game – it’s about community, camaraderie and a whole lot of passion.

The live-streaming of 5 of the 6 games by the best in the business, Cape Town Bowls Talking Heads, certainly added a new element to the weekend. A mixture of games across the log showcased a variety of players with the final streamed game being the log leaders vs position 2. Thank you to our streaming sponsor, Fun Park at Mall of Africa. We were honoured to have the team fly down from Gauteng to take part and we thank you for your support and for helping to bring our event to an international audience. We had four incredible commentators doing mike duty – Dave van der Walt, Warren Middleton, Grant Rightford and Warren Hewitt, we thank you for your time and for adding so much value to the live-stream. Cole and the team from Cape Town Bowls Talking Heads are the ultimate professionals, thank you for bringing the sport of bowls to a much wider audience.

The players enjoyed a boerie roll from Shante’s Tasty Treats after Friday’s game. Saturday lunch was a BOSSA hamburger and chips, thank you BOSSA for The Best Burgers in Town. Each morning players enjoyed Ouma Rooi Koeksisters, Clover Super M milkshakes and Clover Krush juice, fruit, muffins from Muffin & Biscuit Company with jam and Clover cheese, Cape Aqua sparkling water from Pick n Pay Parow and Khayelitsha Cookies with coffee/tea. At prizegiving each player received a Clover hamper including Happy Squares cream cheese, Caramel Double Cream Dairy Dessert, Condensed Milk and Butro Cooking Spray.

Thank you to Advance Worldwide Removals and GloPro for your continued support.

The tournament pamphlets were printed by PK Printing, so all players had the conditions of play and PBA Bowls Master App scoring details at hand.

Thank you to the amazing Mr Jody America, our talented MC and auctioneer during the Team Auction on Friday night. Great odds at R 1 350 for a R 7 376 return but buy of the night went to Morné Scheepers with a profit percentage of 4115%, best spent R50 that got
R 2 107,50 in return. Next year we will aim to increase the pot and beat this year’s R 21 075!

The raffles proved to be a hit, thank you Merchant Factors for the Club Mykonos weekend away and Clover, Spur, Revo Hub and Tienie’s Car Wash for your prize contributions.

Mr K played a large part of making the event a success, thank you for joining the Goodwood family and we look forward to a continued partnership.

A special thank you to our new Club President, Glynn Fourie, your first Classic was a cracker and you certainly have elevated our event to a new level. A new innovation saw the PBA Bowls Master App being used for all scoring. No long waits for scorecards to be handed out and players could view the results, logs and next game info on their phones or on the tv in the club.

Most importantly, thank you to all the players. Without you, there would be no Classic.

We value your support and thank you for joining us.

Well done to Rigmarolers (Adré Barnard, Stephan Kotzé, Chris Jansche van Rensburg and Dean Keyser) who played incredible bowls throughout the tournament.
